The NSWHL playoffs will begin on Thursday evening, April 1st, continue on Friday evening, April 2nd and play a busy schedule through until Saturday night. There will be no games on Easter Sunday except championship games that will be later on Sunday afternoon in Windsor. Playoff rules are here.

The annual Eastern Shore Mariners Tournament is March 4-7. Here is the info sheet.

The Labatt’s Hockey Classic- 12th Annual (Also known as the Jim Henderson Tournament), will be held April 9-12 this year and all games will be played at the Colchester Legion Stadium (Truro rink). Team registration is $650 and deposits are currently being accepted to hold your spot. If you have any questions or you would like to register a team, please email (marissaroode@hotmail.com) or Gloria/Jim (ghendersonb46@gmail.com). This year, we are looking to expand the women’s division and team registrations are needed asap to ensure we can keep the ice times slated for the women’s teams. Welcome to the C Division


Our "C" Division is finally in place. The outcome of a January 23rd game determined that the NSWHL's first "C" Division is made up of Athens, Eastern Shore, Scotia Stars, Surge, Warriors and West Hants.

The "B" Division comprises the undefeated Formation Halifax Mariners and Shepherds, the Hillcrest Flyers, Sportwheels, Conrads Cougars and Frostbite. Best of luck to all teams in the final stretch towards playoffs.

Playoffs are April 2-4 in Windsor & Brooklyn. All players must have played 1/3 of eligible games with their team to be allowed to compete in playoffs.

Second half schedule update


The second half schedule for A is online and FINAL (we think). A partial schedule is up for B/C. We need to wait for the outcome of a future game to determine the final B/C split so the posting of the rest of B and C schedules will be coming as soon as the split is determined. The games currently listed for B and C are a mixture of make up games and second half games.

Other news:

The Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic have been hosting the Annual Chris Saunders Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Shannon arena every April. For the first time they would like to expand this venue to a Women's Division. The Shearwater Arena would be used for the Women's Division only. The dates for this tournament is : April 9th - 11th. There is a pick up hockey possibility for women in the Devonshire rink on Saturday nights from 9.30 until 10.30. They need players. Contact for the Devonshire pickup hockey is Amy Kilbride: kilbrideamy <at> yahoo.ca



H1N1 Precautions



Because of concerns about the spread of H1N1 flu virus teams should consider leaving gloves on for the end-of-game handshakes and players should bring their own water bottles to avoid sharing with others. Hockey Nova Scotia's memo discusses it in more detail, but simple changes of habit can help to reduce the possibility of spreading viruses around.

Tournament MVP for the "A" Division is Allison Henneberry of the Crushers. MVP for the "B" Division is Alicia Payne of the Shepherds and MVP for the "C" Division is goaltender Noel Bungay of Athens.

Formation Halifax Mariners have secured first place in the B division. The top spot in the A Division is now a race between Acadia Axewomen and Conrads Crushers.

As the regular season draws to a close this month, the races for first place are getting tighter.

Conrads Crushers and Acadia Axewomen are in a close race at the top of the "A" Division.

The "B" Division regular season title is anyone's guess. Only 6 points separate the top 5 teams.

The Frostbite have finished their regular season and have a lock on 1st place in the "C" Division.

Reminder to teams that for a player to eligible for playoffs they must have played in one third of your team's total games played this season.

Top Player stats for each division are now available. Look under the menu above for the A Division and B Division Top Player stats. Congratulations to these players for having a great season.

Playoff update:
League playoffs will be held April 3-5 in Windsor, NS. There will three divisions of five teams each (A, B and C). The format will be double elimination. A schedule will be available soon.

Playoff placement will be determined by your team's rank at the end of the season. Ranking will be determined based on the team with the lowest number of games played in each division. For example: The "A" division has a 16 game schedule, but if one team only completes 14 games, the entire division will be ranked on their standings at 14 games in. Likewise for the 18 game schedule for the "B" division.

The "C" division for the playoffs will consist of the five teams ranked 6 through 10 at the end of the season in the "B" division.

Due to HRM canceling two of our ice times because of PeeWee Provincials, we have had to make the following changes to our schedule:
 
Game #128: Athens hosting Hillcrest Flyers will now take place on Sunday, March 29th @ 7-8:30PM at Bowles. (This game was previously scheduled for March 28th - 9PM @ Gray).
 
Game #126: Cougars hosting the Hillcrest Flyers will now take place on Tuesday, March 31st @ 8-9:30PM at Bowles(This game was previously scheduled for March 27th - 10PM @ Gray).

These changes have been made to the website schedule.

All first half games have been updated in the stats and second half games are being updated on an almost daily basis. Thanks Leanne! Please be prompt sending in your gamesheets to Leanne at 1-888-893-5493. They are supposed to be faxed within a week of the game.

It's a tight race in the "B" division. The Formation Halifax Mariners sit on top, but Sportwheels and the Hillcrest Volkswagen Flyers are close behind.

The Conrads Crushers are in first place in the "A" Division, holding a slight lead over their rivals, the Acadia Axewomen.

Reminder: When filling out a gamesheet, please list only players that are present and playing. Do not list players that aren't on the ice. Also clearly indicate who is the goalie.

Message from the organizers of the Vince Ryan Tournament: The Vince Ryan Memorial Tournament will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year from Thursday March 19th to Sunday, March 22nd 2009.

This is one of the largest adult hockey tournaments in the world. Last year, we had 24 Womens teams in 4 divisions and we are expecting an increase in registration for this year. The L.A. Chill Women's team from Los Angeles, California are planning to return to this year's tournament. November 8, 2008


League play is well underway and 16 games have been played in the B Division. The Hillcrest Flyers sit on top of the standings but Sportwheels and the Conrads Cougars are right behind them with unbeaten records.

The Flyers opened the season with a strong 6-1 win over the Warriors. They then squeaked past Formation 4-3 and tied 2-2 with the Surge.

In opening weekend play, the Cougars blanked West Hants 8-0. The Cougars handed the Flyers their only loss on October 25th - defeating them 5-3.

Sportwheels is also off to a strong start. They doubled the Surge 4-2 on the opening weekend and then shut-out the Warriors
8-0 on October 25th.

Frostbite has a couple of wins, edging Athens 3-1 and West Hants 2-1. Their only loss comes at the hands of the Shepherds who defeated them 8-2. The Shepherds beat the Surge 5-1 but lost 6-3 to Formation Halifax Mariners.

Athens have posted one win so far, defeating West Hants 5-1.

In "A" Division play, Acadia leads the division with two wins, adding a 4-3 victory over Truro. The Valley Old Dolls recovered from their tough first game and played to a 2-2 tie with the Conrad Crushers. The Millers had a tough first game against the Crushers, losing 8-0.

Two "A" Division games were played. Acadia continues their rivalry with the Conrad Crushers (formerly the Storm). Acadia won 1-0 on Saturday. On Sunday in the Valley, Truro handily defeated the Valley Old Dolls 11-2.

The NSWHL begins its 15th season on October 17th. The league has an all-time high 15 teams this year. Five in the "A" Division and ten in the "B" Division.

"A" division teams will play 8 games before the holidays and "B" division teams will play 9 games.
